After the holiday
excitement, January can seem downright dismal. Here in the Midwest, we’ve been
suffering single digit temps. When it’s time to hunker down, I have a few tried
and true pick-me-ups to see me through the cold months. Here’s what makes my
winter survival list.
Wool Socks—not sexy, but they help
keep my toes warm. The rest of my body might be room temperature, but my toes
are always cold without my favorite striped socks.
Argan Oil—the real stuff. Cold
pressed and a little pricey, it keeps my skin from drying like a raisin.
Warm Vanilla Sugar Scrub by Bath and
Body Works—makes my skin smooth and smells so comforting.
Soup—I can’t get enough this
time of year. I like to make a huge batch in the crock pot. My favorites are
potato, beef and barley, and chicken tortilla. Nothing is better than coming
home to the aroma of savory soup. Today, I made minestrone. Mmmm. Veggies
(fresh, frozen or canned), meat, beans, noodles or rice—toss it all in the pot
along with some spices, and you’ve got a hearty dish.
Netflix—is my friend. Along with
Acorn and Hulu, I have lots to keep me entertained when it’s too cold to brave
the outdoors. Nurse Jackie just
started streaming on Netflix, and if you have the chance to see a UK show
called Black Work, watch it. Trust
me on this one.
Sherpa blankets—are the best. The
soft, snuggly material is perfect to cuddle with when the temperature drops. Mine
has a cable sweater on one side, Sherpa on the other.
Starbucks Hot Cocoa Classic—is delish.
I add a tablespoon to my coffee. On those dark, cold mornings when I want to
hit the snooze one more time, just thinking about it helps get me out of bed.
So what are some
of your favorite items that get you through winter? What do I need to add to my
survival list?

Here in Houston, one day we have on the heat and the next the AC. I never know what I'll need when I venture outdoors.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a bit of that this week, Shana. 70 yesterday, snowing this morning.
DeleteI've just started watching Nurse Jackie again. I forgot how good it is.
