Why do I love Regency fashion?
Well, for starters, I love the tight trousers/breeches Regency men wore.
You see what I mean.
But a lady in this time period also had some lovely clothing options. For one thing, unlike her mother or grandmother before her, she did not have to be sewn into her fabulous Georgian gown by a lady's maid (remember the scene with Madame de Meruruille in Dangerious Liasons?
Even when she went dancing with the Prince Regent, her silk gown would be elegant, but not necessarily elaborate.
And no corsets! Ladies of the Regency period wore stays, of course, but they did not have to be crushed in a vise to fit into their gowns. Progress indeed.

ReplyDeleteMe too Carolyn...I want to wear a gown like that maybe once a week :)
DeleteI love Regency clothing too. I think the classic lines of the gowns look good on everyone.
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge advantage to that cut of gown, Shana,,,so true :)
DeleteRegency clothes were not only lovely they were far more practical than those of the Georgian and Victorian eras.
ReplyDeleteAs a modern woman, the practicality really appeals to me Maggi
DeleteBeautiful clothing but given my tendency to trip over my own feet, I suspect I would be the one in the retiring room, forever repairing my hems! Thanks for the lovely illustrations.
