Sharon Lathan visiting and celebrating!

Hello fellow Casablanca Authors, and esteemed visitors to this fantastic blog! Sharon Lathan here, popping in to visit and celebrate the release of my latest novel.

WOW! What a blast from the past to be here today! Some of you may recall that once upon a time I was an active member of Casablanca. Those were the days! Loads of fun was to be had, and I learned SO much. In fact, what I learned here on Casablanca from the fabulous Casa Babes gave me the idea, and the guts, to create my own group blog for Austenesque writers. That kernel of an idea was appealing to my pal Abigail Reynolds, and we formed Austen Authors.... which has been amazing, but also extremely time consuming... so I had to bid adieu to Casablanca a couple years ago.

That brief intro hopefully serves to explain why I am guest blogging here today. What a treat! I just wish I had been alerted earlier that I was up at bat. Not sure what happened, but wires must have been crossed or gremlins were at the emails again. Whatever the case, I am posting late today, and I apologize down to my toes.

Nevertheless, late or early, I am ready to PAR-TAY! with the wild women of romance! I am in major celebrating mode these days as it is. How could I not be? My latest novel has just been released, and it is the one I am most proud of. SO much research and love was poured into the epic tale of Dr. George Darcy. The Passions of Dr. Darcy is a stunning book, and I truly could ramble on and on and on and.... well, you get the picture. Instead, here is the official “blurb” and I’ll follow with thoughts from others so you won’t merely think I am biased (although I seriously am when it comes to George Darcy).
George Darcy is the second son of a wealthy landowner in Georgian Era England. At 22 he is one of the youngest medical doctorate graduates of Cambridge University and admitted licentiate from the London Royal College of Physicians, and thus considered a brilliant, rising star in England’s field of medicine. Yet Dr. Darcy refuses the easy, comfortable pathway and enlists as a physician with the British East India Company, embarking on a personal quest to broaden his education and practice his craft without the restraints imposed by British society.
The Passions of Dr. Darcy spans thirty-four years in the life of this incredible, eccentric man. Using vivid descriptions of the culture and atmosphere, the story traces his early steps as a new doctor in a strange land on to his eventual return to England and his childhood home decades later. This is a story of India and the people as well as of the diseases and medical care available. Primarily, however, this is the story of one man who strived to change the face of medicine while yearning to fill the void left within his soul upon the death of his identical twin when they were 12. His search for family, enduring love, and lost companionship is a quest not wholly realized until returning to England and Pemberley. There a new generation of family and friends will heal the physician, and to his greatest surprise, the true love of his life awaits.

The Passions of Dr. Darcy was released on April 2, not quite a week ago, and the buzz has been spectacular. My readers have been anxiously awaiting the full story of George Darcy since I introduced him waaayyy back in Loving Mr. Darcy, second novel of The Darcy Saga sequel series to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. He is a fan favorite to be sure. Yet the best part is that whether a fan of my books, or a reader who has never heard of me, you can dig right in.

Warning: You WILL fall madly in love with Dr. Darcy and want more!

"Such a fantastic book! Better if you've read the other books Sharon's written but you would still be able to follow the story even if you hadn't read the others. Dr. Darcy is the uncle of Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Great book, wonderful descriptions, interesting characters, funny at times, serious at others, heart warming and heart wrenching at times. I loved it!"

"I just finished The Passions of Dr. Darcy. If I had realized the last page was the last page... I would have savored it more! I was like, Glossary... what? It's over!"

"Anyone who has read Pride and Prejudice will enjoy this story though that isn’t a prerequisite. One doesn’t even have to read the other entries in this series since this could also be a stand-alone. It’s a splendid tale of one man’s determination . . . to be the best in his chosen profession . . . and to find love." New York Journal of Books

"The Passions of Dr. Darcy sweeps us along on a voyage to the exotic India of 200 years ago as seen through the eyes of the flamboyant, arrogant, and compassionate physician, George Darcy, Mr. Darcy’s uncle. The larger-than-life George’s story could only take place against a canvas as spectacular as he is. India, the lush, vibrant land of fairy tales, is the perfect locale. Sumptuous descriptions and a wealth of historic detail set a stage as compelling as the hero. The Passions of Dr. Darcy is that rarity these days, the large novel. Right from the beginning, the story grabs you and never lets you go. A true joy to read." Her Historical Hilarity

I could share more, but hopefully the message is clear. History, romance, relationships, epic locales, medicine.... you have it all with The Passions of Dr. Darcy.

I am thrilled to share my newest novel on the blog and with the authors who first welcomed this newbie writer back in 2008. Long time relationships were established right here on Casablanca... friendships and fun times I shall never forget. Thanks for allowing me to be here today.

Now break out the champagne and let the streamers fly!

*sigh. It is my favorite cover of them all, I admit. The man is PERFECT as Dr. Darcy, especially with the blue tint added to the eyes.

Thanks for the congrats. And thanks again for alerting me that I was scheduled to blog here today! Still utterly flummoxed as to how that was arranged without me knowing.
